The interior of the Baroque cathedral of St. Nicholas has undergone various remodeling. In the postwar period, it underwent an overhaul of the decorative apparatus with a qualitative decline in restoration work. Following the collapse of part of the monument on March 13, 2006 , the Donati spa company, parent company of the La Cattedrale consortium, provided reconstruction in natural stone of the missing portions of the monument. The Estia company was called in to tackle a challenging job of restoring the stucco parts found in two chapels in the transept and one chapel in the nave. The stuccoes that survived the collapse suffered exposure to the elements until the new covering was done. The restoration involved reassembling the recovered portions of stucco and reconstructing missing parts
