Ciolina Palace – L’Aquila

Post-earthquake restoration 2009

The complex occupies a central location in one of L’Aquila’s oldest and best-qualified neighborhoods. The Palace arose from the transformations of a 16th-century housing complex after the 1703 earthquake. The entire aggregate shows obvious signs of the 06-04-2009 earthquake event. On the exterior facades there is a principle of overturning, which has resulted in various collapses and disruptions. The restoration work involved not only the interior pictorial decorative apparatus but also the exterior and interior stone elements, stucco work, valuable flooring, and historic plasterwork.
