Cortile degli Aranci – Rome

Restoration of the vaults

The decorated vaults of the Orange Cloister are located on the second floor of the arcade surrounding the courtyard of the same name. It consists of a cycle of 25 bays that develop in a horseshoe shape on the west, south and east sides of the arcade. The decorations are made from the late 1800s to the early 1900s as examination tests for students of the Academy of Art that occupied this portion of the St. Michael’s Complex in those years. Restoration operations were started on June 5, 2023. To facilitate work on vault, arch and lunette simultaneously, a custom-designed mobile scaffold was erected. This structure allowed the safe passage of visitors to the Cloister below the scaffold.
