Marble sculpture restoration

The statue preserved in the St. Dominic Museum in Forli is a marble sculpture depicting Hebe, the goddess of youth, daughter of Zeus and Hera. One of Antonio Canova’s most important sculptures, it is the last in a series of four sculptures representing the same subject and was considered by critics and Canova himself to be the most beautiful. Due to an aggravation of the sculpture’s cracking framework due to the presence of metal pins, it was essential to initiate a campaign of investigation and restoration work. The interventions were carried out by the company Estia with advice from the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence.
