Nicolaci Palace – Syracuse

Restoration of pictorial surfaces

The Nicolaci palace originated as an urban aristocratic residence of the Nicolaci family, which retained ownership of one wing of the palace while ceding the representative part to the Municipality of Noto. The Baroque-style building is attributed to Rosario Gagliardi. The building is known for its balconies supported by imposing corbels. Inside features richly decorated rooms lined with fine wallpapers. The most impressive room is the ballroom painted on all surfaces with imitation faux drapery. Restoration work involved all the pictorial surfaces of nine painted rooms and the monumental staircase.
