S. M. della Scala – Siena

Restoration of wall paintings

Santa Maria della Scala in Siena is one of the oldest hospitals in Europe. Having exhausted its hospital functions, it has recently been transformed into an important cultural center, this vocation enhanced by its special condition: it is located opposite the Cathedral and preserves important artistic evidence ranging from the Etruscan and Roman ages to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It is generally known for the fine frescoes that decorate the interiors.

Restorations, to the wall paintings of the Monumental Complex, were conducted in ATI with the firm Iacopini Fabrizio and involved the frescoes of the Old Sacristy, by Vecchietta, the frescoes of the Church of the Annunziata, by Sebastiano Conca, and the plasters decorated with fragmentary frescoes of the Lanes of St. Ansano and St. Galgano.
